Skijoring (pronounced skee-jor-ing) is when a skier is pulled by a horse down a snow packed track, complete with jumps, gates, and plenty of cheering. It's part rodeo, part ski race and 100% Red River Fun.
Satuday, January 31 and February 1, 2026 on River St. in Red River, NM.
Watching is free! Bring the whole family, bundle up, and grab a good spot. Food drinks, and merch will be available for purchase.
We love our four legged friends, but due to the nature of the event, only service animals are permitted.
Horses, crowds, and high speeds can be stessful (and unsafe) for pets, so please leave them home where it's safe, and warm!
Skijoring involves large animals, high speeds, and sometimes icy terrain. We work with the Red River Ski Area, the Town of Red River Public Safety, and skijoring experts to constantly assess the course for ideal conditions. Any ice, slush, or sub-par conditions will result in delays or cancellations until the event can continue safely. We will have a vet and EMS on site and a safety manager at the event to ensure a safe and fun day for participants, horses and spectators. Safety for everyone present at the event is our top priority.
